Dr Muralitharan has played cricket in both Australia and Sri Lanka and has been actively involved in promoting the sport at national and international levels.One of his most notable achievements was coaching and managing the Tsunami World Vision Cricket Match held in Melbourne on Australia Day, 26 January 2005. The event featured a number of international cricket stars and was organised to support Tsunami relief efforts following the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami.
